EDIH Saarland
Digital innovation catalyst for structural change in Saarland, offering SMEs comprehensive services in artificial intelligence and sharing regional innovation strategies in the EDIH network.
EDIH is the digital innovation catalyst and integrator for structural change in Saarland. The project provides regional small and medium-sized enterprises with a comprehensive service portfolio focusing on artificial intelligence and other future key technologies. EDIH Saarland operates within the European EDIH network and addresses the key regional innovation needs of the green and digital transformation. The services developed around regional innovation strategies are made available to the entire EDIH network.
Our role in the project
The EDIH Saarland is a research transfer project funded by the EU, the federal government and the state, which supports companies and the public sector in the digital transformation. With a focus on industrial AI, manufacturing and ICT sectors, the EDIH Saarland addresses the needs of the regional economy. In addition, the project contributes to the innovation strategy of the Saarland and to the consolidation of the research and development landscape and acts as a national contact point for digitalization services.
Building on this, innovations are stimulated through strategic approaches, which improves and promotes the culture of innovation in the region. This will lead to a significant increase in regional digital maturity, an increase in digital skills and data expertise in the Saarland population and the sustainable creation and preservation of jobs. The services will also be opened up to the entire EDIH network so that the advantages of European integration can be fully exploited.
We take over the range of services related to AI in services, AI in the office and service digitalization. In addition, the August-Wilhelm Scheer Institute supports regional innovators with digital qualification offers such as e-learning, webinar recordings and tech radars.
The initial situation
Overview of the need for action
Saarland faces the challenges of the next structural transformation, from the combustion engine to e-mobility, to climate neutrality and resource efficiency, as well as a digital transformation of its industry. This requires massive restructuring toward digitalized, climate-neutral production and mobility, particularly in the manufacturing sector. Furthermore, the growing shortage of skilled workers due to demographic change is complicating the transformation of the regional economy. On the other hand, Saarland's IT and research landscape, with more than 1.000 innovative IT companies and research institutions, makes Saarland an IT hotspot with more than 10.000 employees, which has the potential to become a leading center for digitalization and AI.
